Answer honestly—how willing are you to go to your nearby blood donation camp? For most of us, the answer is “not much,” and that hesitation is costing lives every single day.
Do you know India needs about 14.6 million units of blood every year? However, the supply consistently falls short. This is why the national and global health agencies report that India's blood shortage is among the largest in the world. If we talk about numbers, almost 12,000 people die each day in India due to a lack of timely access to blood.
On the contrary, the eligible Indian donor pool is roughly around 402 million people! Yet less than 1% of the population donates blood annually. So, the problem isn’t a lack of donors, but a lack of willingness to donate.
Your blood can be separated into red cells, plasma, and platelets. That means each unit of your blood can save up to three lives**.** So, next time there’s a blood camp near you, make sure you visit!
To overcome this shortage, we at the Venus Foundation have taken it upon ourselves to organize ****blood donation camps across different locations. With each camp, we aim to bridge the demand-supply gap. Starting small, we’ve already begun building momentum and raising awareness.
PGI, Chandigarh
Venus Foundation, along with other co-sponsors, organized a blood donation camp in collaboration with the PGI Engineer Association, Chandigarh. The event was conducted in remembrance of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya on the occasion of Engineers’ Day.
The turnout was remarkable—341 people came forward to donate blood. Putting that into perspective, each unit of blood has the potential to save up to three lives. This means that over 1,100 people can be saved because of their compassion and generosity.
That’s the real power of a community. People who came forward are more than donors; they’re heroes without capes. Through their selfless act, they have given strangers a second chance at life. The lives that will forever be grateful to them.
Shree Sanatan Dharm Mandir, Sec 10, Panchkula
In collaboration with Bhartiya Yog Sansthan, Delhi, Venus Foundation organized a blood donation camp on the occasion of Smriti Diwas.
A total of 24 donors came forward to contribute. The number might look modest, but remember, even one donation can give someone a new life. The spirit behind the act matters more than the crowd. As the saying goes, no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. Each person showcased a gesture of compassion and humanity.
The efforts of those who stepped up didn’t go unnoticed. Our team and volunteers prepared thoughtful bags of goodies and food for every donor. It was more than just a token of appreciation; it was a reminder of their generosity and motivation for others to join the movement. With more people coming forward, we can make health accessible to all.
